đ€Ż Motivation Doesnât Exist
The word should be deleted from our vocabulary.
Hey everyone,
How did it go last week with telling 3 people about your potential idea?
This week I want to talk about why I dislike the whole idea of motivation. I think it simply doesnât get us anywhere.
đ The Big Idea
Motivation is often perfect for initiating a project. However, itâs terrible at sustaining our drive for work. Therefore, it would be better if we didnât rely on it at all. Most of us âwaitâ for motivation to kick in before we get started on a project etc. This stimulus wears off after a while and can lead to either us not completing the task on hand or not doing it to the best of our ability.
The simple idea that worked for me:
Donât wait, just do it.
With this mindset, I built discipline, consistency and habits. I feel like âjust doing itâ when I come to my newsletter and other work. Itâs been liberating and has allowed me to build discipline in other areas of life. I donât need to âwaitâ for motivation to get me going any longer.
đ Your Action Item:
Find 1 person you can be accountable to for your actions (it can be family, friends, a coach, or anyone at all)
I recommend someone working towards a goal, too, so you can push each other. Having an accountability partner will mean you are constantly progressing forwards. Itâs proved super effective in making me disciplined and ensuring I spend 30 minutes a day working towards my aims. An alternative to a partner is to download the simple habit tracker Notion offers.
Let me know how it goes for you! I will be super excited to hear back!
P.S. Feel free to email me by replying and make me your accountability partner! It would be an honour đ
đ My Solopreneur Journey:
I canât believe itâs already been three weeks since my first edition đ± As the weeks have passed, I have started to enjoy writing even more. Itâs been a welcome change from the daily life of being in medical school - exactly what I had hoped! I have also had the opportunity to meet others on the same path and exchange our learnings. I am excited for the coming days as we hit the 1-month mark đ
In the meantime:
If you have any feedback for me,
Or you have any ideas for me to explore,
Or, you would like to have a chat
please reply to this email or book a meeting with me here. I would love to hear from you!
Cheers,
Sanay

đ§ My Recommendations
đ Book: Canât Hurt Me by David Goggins
I read Sahil Bloomâs thread earlier this week, and he highlighted a trap I had fallen into. He rightly said reading one book deeply is more impressive than reading 100 books yearly. I think this is something we should all keep in mind; itâs not a rat race.
đ§ Podcast: Steven Bartlett and Jay Shetty
I found this podcast highly thought-provoking - Steve and Jay share how to deal with conflict, improve relationships, and rise above the status quo - a must-listen for anyone looking to elevate their game.
