🛠️ Create Systems for Success and Sustainability

How to run a one-person biz alongside a full time commitment.

Hey everyone,

Today I want to share how to leverage tech to create systems which have allowed me to create a sustainable one-person biz alongside medical school.

💭 The Big Idea

Over the last few weeks, I have had to juggle university deadlines, my one-person biz and more. The key to this has been developing systems that allow me to:

  1. Produce content for my LinkedIn

  2. Work efficiently to a high standard

How did I make my system?

First, I recommend creating a rudimentary system on Notion; it won’t be perfect.

As you begin to use your system, make changes as needed and fix what doesn’t work.

For example, one of the ways I use Notion is to have a content calendar that lets me plan all my content 30 days in advance and view it at a glance. This has helped me speed up my work and change my content strategy as and when needed. Notion has also been helpful in creating fluid systems that can be easily moulded or changed.

P.S. Notion Pro is free if you have a university email.

I use Things 3 to capture new tasks that need adding to my to-do list and combine them with my Google Calendar. This allows me to stay on top of my work and not miss crucial deadlines.

I prefer not to have more than 5 tasks on my to-do lists on any given day.

Finally, I also use SigmaOS as my web browser. It allows me to house my tabs according to the various projects I am working on. This has been a crucial piece to my system as I can link workspace names to Notion and Things.

P.S. SigmaOS Pro is free for students, researchers, and educators.

That’s all the tech I use to create my sustainable system for work. It has allowed me to create a consistent flow of content and manage other commitments without missing deadlines. It can be a tedious process at the start, but the advantages of a functioning and honed system are invaluable.

🚙 My Solopreneur Journey

Over the last two weeks, I have really dived into working with my first client, and once we go live, I hope to share it with all of you!

Apart from that, I decided not to post 7x a week on LinkedIn and cut it down to 3x a week. It was a tough decision to make, however, a necessary one. The algorithm rewards consistency, not just the number of times you post. I also preferred to dedicate more time and energy to ensure that all the systems I develop for working with clients are thorough and work efficiently, and this required me to divert attention and energy. I also didn’t want to put out content which I wasn’t completely happy with on LinkedIn.

I am still debating whether to start rebranding now in terms of graphics etc., or wait until the summer. I would appreciate any advice on this! Please hit reply to let me know your thoughts.

It’s quite crazy that when I write to you next week, 3 months will have passed since I first began. Simply crazy.

See you all next week!

Cheers,

Sanay

🧠 My Recommendations

A very interesting book packed with value. I have been quite slow to read over the last few weeks, so only done 100 pages so far. Highly recommend it so far. I also need to start listening to his podcast more.

Two of my favourite content creators on a podcast together! A very interesting episode on how Sahil began his journey during the pandemic and his plans for the future.
