Charlie Munger, McDonalds and Ideas

What I have been upto this week.

Hey everyone,

This week I am doing another round up of things I am currently digging.

First up is the Acquired podcast episode with Charlie Munger (I think you will probably see more Acquired episode recs as time goes on 😅). This follows on from the investing theme from last week - Charlie was one of the best investors ever, second to only Buffet in my opinion. They both worked together as ‘partners in crime’ at Berkshire Hathaway and this is the only podcast Charlie has ever really done. Definitely give it a listen here to pick up some tips.

I have just rewatched The Founder (story behind how McDonalds went global). It was really intriguing to revisit the story of how Kroc essentially manipulates the OG McDonald Brothers into selling the name as well as the chain. There is also great insight into the franchise business model around selling brand vs leasing real estate. A must watch alongside other movies in this category, like Air.

Finally, I have been spending time on ideas and what content I can produce going forward and one of them is to share what I have learnt whilst away at Imperial on the Management course. I feel like every medical student and graduated medic needs to have basic business skills and acumen - I have the resources and the knowledge from the course and creating short vids or posts on them would be useful. I have tried to put some of it into action at Medics’ Money with the latest series of podcasts we will be doing (episode 1 here if you missed it before) but I think it could be useful for others on a larger scale. Any thoughts on this would be welcome!

See you all next week!

Cheers,

Sanay
